Jay Spectre
Past the wasteland of shit-hop that overloads our collective conciousness lies a band that has chosen to use their gift to inform, discuss and enlighten. Through the amalgamated sound of folk, funk, hip-hop and rock, Jay Spectre and The Resistance wax poetic on issues/ideas that actually matter while still finding room at the end of the day to party. This four piece, constantly evolving band from Ontario has been moving across the land and taking audiences aback with their unique sound and message. The band began in 2001 as the solo project of frontman, James Oliver and quickly morphed into a full fledge band. In 2003 the release of "To The End Of The World And Back" on Dogbus Music defined the sound that could only be described as "Jay Spectre". As it often does, real life got in the way and the band desolved in 2004 so the members could focus on their education. James took the time to go to Australia and studied at the University of Syndey. Upon return original members Ryan Oliver, Jeremy Drury and new guitarist Jon Hembrey joined forces with James to reinvent Jay Spectre and the results have been amazing. As the band prepares to release it's follow up to the hit "To The End Of The World And Back" they continue to entertain as they bring their unique sound to clubs, lobbys and basements any chance they get. Jay Spectre and The Resistance have shared the stage with acts as diverse as Bedouin Soundclash and Greg Macpherson and at every turn they are changing the way people see hip-hop. It's nice to finally see music that means something.
